Bro. Jack Ventura, SM, Director of Mission Integration and the Ministry Lead for the Marianist Family Encounter Project at CMCP, sends us this information about the school's campus garden.
Two of the goals of the Laudato Si’ platform are to develop an Ecological Education and Spirituality for our Marianist Educational Institutions. Megan Foley, a member of the Science Department Faculty and moderator for the Environmental Club, has submitted the following update on our campus garden.
“The Environmental Club has been hard at work this year, dedicated to making our garden a beautiful and fruitful place. We started by picking out weeds and removing any debris from our garden area, preparing it for planting. Then, we carefully planted flower seeds and herbs in designated sections of the garden, taking into consideration the amount of sunlight and water each plant will need. We have been diligently nurturing the garden, and as a result, the garden is now flourishing with colorful flowers and fragrant herbs. In addition to our extracurricular work, we also did some garden-related activities in our biology class. During class, we planted sweet peas, which further enhanced our understanding of Mendelian genetics. We learned about the different traits and characteristics of plants and how they are passed down from parent to offspring. This experience not only helped us understand the subject of genetics better, but it also helped our garden thrive. With our careful selection and pollination, we have seen an increase in the variety and quality of our plants. Our hard work has truly paid off, and we are proud to see our garden flourish and contribute to a more sustainable environment. We hope to continue our efforts to ensure the prosperity of our garden.”
