In celebration of their 60th anniversary in Africa, the Marianist Sisters established a new foundation in Burkina Faso in September 2022. At the same time, they took over the management of Saint Eugénie Secondary School, a diocesan school focused on providing girls with a comprehensive education based on Gospel values.

As part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the presence of the Marianist Sisters in Africa, a new foundation became a reality on September 23, 2022. In this new adventure in the land of Burkina Faso, the sisters assumed the responsibility of managing the Lycée Sainte Eugénie. This diocesan school is located in the Central-Eastern region of Burkina Faso, in the province of Boulgou, and in the beautiful city of Tenkodogo.
Saint Eugénie Secondary School was founded in 2017 by Fr. Athanase Guiri. He named it Saint Eugénie in memory of his beloved mother, who had that name. In 2018, the school was transferred to the diocese. However, for practical reasons, it remained closed until 2021, when it reopened for the 6th grade. In a context where the schooling rate for girls remains low, our main goal is to provide human and spiritual formation, to offer an integral education to the students in the light of Gospel values and for the development of a better society. Saint Eugénie Secondary School wants to be a family in which each member of the school feels at home, respecting others, his/her person, and his/her sensibility. We seek to listen to, advise, and be close to our students as they progress in their studies.
Besides running the school, youth ministry is one of the priorities of our mission. We are happy to be in the midst of dynamic youth who inspire hope in spite of the great economic and security challenges they face.
