Read about the Spoon Route, a 23-year-old initiative started at the Marianist School Miguel León Prado in Chile, where parents and volunteers cook and distribute food to the homeless.
The Spoon Route is an initiative that began 23 years ago at the Marianist School Miguel León Prado in Santiago, Chile, with a group of parents of students, accompanied by Sr. Leticia Flores, FMI. They organize themselves one day a week to collect food and prepare dinner, which they then distribute to the homeless people.
This initiative has been contagious and parents from another school have joined in this mission and have formed a Foundation to permanently help these same groups of homeless people on another day of the week.
When there are special celebrations, they prepare a special service for them, bringing tables, chairs, and appropriate decorations to the place, for example, at Christmas. This missionary action implies, besides the food prepared for the homeless, a time dedicated to listening to the stories of their lives. We thank the Lord for the possibility of serving Him in the poor.
