Elizabeth Miller, Ministry Lead for MFEP at North Catholic, Pittsburgh, PA, sends us this update from Tiffany Yackubosky, Academic Support Coordinator and Dean of Academic Affairs at North Catholic.
In an effort to be more sustainable, I created a caddy at each student workstation. This caddy includes whiteboard markers, washable/reusable erasers, and marker boards.
Often, in the Academic Support room, we are demonstrating or tutoring students. Typically, we would use a new piece of paper for each example we work through with students. However, we are committed to reducing paper waste in the Academic Support room by having student centers. When students ask for assistance, we can still give them a visual representation without the waste. It’s nice to have them at every center because not only does it help me reduce waste, but now students can also use them to brainstorm/do work and record their answers electronically. Students find the centers to be fun and resourceful. Students are more willing to collaborate and work together while caring for the resources because they are so accessible, a change of pace from paper/pencil. It’s been a welcomed change to our room!
